THE ART OF LOVE - On Set with Actor, Mike Burke Standing in on the feature film The Art of Love over the last month and half has been a delight and I've seen and done some noteworthy things. First off the film stars Zosia Mamet who recently appeared in the 2010 Woodstock Film Festival selection Cherry (and I might add she has been a first class doll, buying iced coffees for the entire crew!), new comer Brit thespian Sam Underwood (a fine young chap I must say), Hudson Valley resident Aidan Quinn, Virginia Madsen and the lovely Olympia Dukakis. My first day on set found me sitting in a row boat in the middle of lake wondering what I had gotten myself into. Throughout the shoot I've also had to ride a bike through the streets of Kingston, hop on a very loud bulldozer in the rain at a lumber yard, read poetry in a canoe up at Byrdcliffe (don't worry the canoe was not in water), watch a witch burn in effigy and have to leave one night early for the birth of my daughter (welcome Delilah!). What does any of this have to do with the plot of The Art of Love, well I can't give that away, let's just say it's a teenager’s coming-of-age story where she discovers her family’s magical powers. Look for it in 2011. Meanwhile a huge thank you to everyone on the crew who were fabulous and we look forward to more filming in the Hudson Valley next year. |

RETURN wraps
RESULTS IN NEW CERTIFIED PRODUCTION FACILITY IN NEWBURGH, NY The film Return, written and directed by Liza Johnson and starring Linda Cardellini (ER, Brokeback Mountain,Freaks and Geeks) and John Slattery (Madmen, Reservation Road, Flags of our Fathers) recently wrapped production in the in the greater Newburgh-Beacon area including New Windsor, Cornwall the Thruway Market in Walden. Return tells the story of young woman (Cardellini) who must adjust to civilian life after coming home from the war in Afghanistan. “The film is ostensibly set in southeastern Ohio where the director grew up,” according to producer Noah Harlan. “We wanted to find an area that had a lot of those qualities to it and Newburgh made a lot of sense for us. In particular, this area had that look that we were looking for. It’s a mixture of a kind of de-industrialized landscape with a lot of natural beauty and the river.” As part of the production process, a new facility was certified, with help from the Hudson Valley Film Commission, by the New York State Governors office for Motion Picture and Television Development. The production facility is located at 250 Lake Street in Newburgh in the same building that will open it’s doors in April 2011 to the Motorcyclepedia Motorcycle Museum. Owner Ted Doering made 21,000 square available after being approached by Mark Gamma, head of The Newburgh Actors Studio. Productions using this regional stage, will now qualify for the Empire State Film Production Tax Credit program.
