RONDOUT WALKING TOUR FEATURED ON HUDSON RIVER VALLEY RAMBLE ROSTER
by ADMIN on SEPTEMBER 13, 2010
The monthly walking tour of the Rondout National Historic District, offered by Friends of Historic Kingston, will take place on Saturday, September 25, departing at 11 a.m. from outside the Kingston Heritage Area Visitors Center, 20 Broadway. The one-hour tour focuses on the rise of Rondout in the nineteenth century as a thriving maritime village during the era when the village was the terminus for the Delaware and Hudson Canal. The rich legacy of commercial buildings, cast-iron storefronts, homes and churches built by the various nationalities who emigrated to Rondout is viewed. The tour fee is $5 per adult and $2 for children under 16. The walk will be led by Rondout native Robert Sweeney who brings a personal touch and viewpoint to the tour. Some uphill walking is involved.
The Rondout Walking Tour is a featured event of the 11th Annual Hudson River Valley Ramble, sponsored by the Hudson River Valley National Heritage Area and Hudson River Valley Greenway.
