2010 Calendar of Events
The following public programs will be offered at the National Purple Heart Hall of Honor in 2010:
Sunday, February 14, 2010: 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. Letters Home in Time of War
Our program invites you to hear letters that soldiers sent home during war time experiences. Letters will be read that cover the Civil War through the current conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. Musical selections will be performed as we travel from the Civil War to today. Seating is limited and reservations are strongly encouraged. Please call 845-561-1765 for reservations.
Memorial Weekend is a time to reflect upon, and commemorate all those who died in service to this country. It is also the anniversary of a ceremony in 1932 where veterans of World War One were formally given the Purple Heart. The Hall of Honor will present three days of activities in honor of this weekend: Time TBA, call for details.

Purple Heart Award Ceremony
78 years ago on this day, 138 veterans of World War I received their Purple Heart medals on this site. Join us in celebrating this anniversary as a modern soldier is formally awarded his Purple Heart.
Saturday, May 29: 10:00-5:00. Memorial Day & Its Historic Roots
Memorial Day began, as a national observance in 1868 as a way to commemorate and honor those who died preserving the Union during the American Civil War. The day will host a Civil War living history program and a short presentation on the origins of the holiday and a profile of some of the 1932 Purple Heart recipients who were wounded during the Civil War.
Sunday May 30, 2010: 1:00-5:00 PM. Honoring our Fallen Heroes
On this, the traditional date for Memorial Day, veteran's representing WWII- the Global War on terrorism will reflect on and remember those who did not return home. The program will also include poetry and musical selections. Seating is limited and reservations are strongly encouraged. Please call 845-561-1765 for reservations.
Saturday August 7, 2010: 11:00-3:00. Purple Heart Appreciation Day
Military Timeline, 17th-20th centuries; Veteran's Outreach program, History of the Purple Heart;
Firing demonstrations. Details to follow.
Thursday November 11, 2010: 11:00am-1:00 pm and 2:00pm- 4:00 pm. Sharing our Stories, Preserving Our History
Veterans will share their recollections of their service. There will be musical selections in honor of our veterans, and light refreshments will be served.
