As always our hikes will include stops along the way to interpret natural and historic features. We hike at the pace of our slowest hiker and remember bring a snack for the halfway point. Family Fun Hike: Lakeville Ironworks Trail. Sunday, July 3rd at 1:00PM Take an interpretive hike with park staff through the historic Lakeville ironworks community to see what still remains. Reconnect with our nation’s history as we discuss Lakeville’s influence on the American Revolution and the centuries that followed. The program will start at the Visitor Center and lasts approximately two hours. [Easy 1.5 mile interpretive walk] Hike of the Month: McKeag’s Meadow Loop. Saturday, July 9th at 11:00AM Enjoy a hike with park staff into an assortment of diverse ecosystems. Hikers will encounter a variety of birds and wildlife as we pass through these different habitats. The program will start at the Visitor Center and last approximately four hours. Hikers are encouraged to bring a recommended liter bottle of water and their favorite trailside snack. [Moderate 4.5 mile hike] Family Fun Walk: Eagle Valley Loop. Sunday, July 17th at 1:00 PM Join park staff as we roll up our sleeves and dive into a “hands on” approach to pond ecology. We will enjoy an easy stroll around Eagle Pond to observe a variety of wildlife that depends on ponds for survival. Participants are then encouraged to sort through various aquatic plants and search for macro invertebrates. You will be surprised by what you find! The program will meet at the Eagle Pond Parking Area and last approximately two hours. Please call and verify directions when you register for this event. [Easy 0.5 mile interpretive walk] Weekend Warrior Hike: Sterling Valley Loop. Saturday, July 30th at 9:00 AM Challenge yourself to a strenuous hike in the heart of Sterling Forest®. Join park staff as we guide you through various environments, including habitats favored by the Golden Winged Warbler. Due to the length of this hike, participants are required to have an adequate water supply for each individual. This hike will start at the Visitor Center and last approximately five hours.
