Saturday December 19, 2009  10:30 AM On Saturday, December 19, 2009 at 10:30 AM bring the family to Trailside Museums and Zoo to help make tasty holiday snacks for the black bears.  At 11:00 AM, the holiday celebration will be in full swing. You can watch the three bears unwrap their gift boxes full of your home-made delicious holiday treats.  When not watching the bears, discover how the rest of our native animals prepare for winter.  The Zoo and Park are beautiful this time of year, so take advantage of the day to stroll the nature trails and explore our museums.  Rain/Snow date: December 20th Parking at Bear Mountain State Park is $7.00. Rich was the breakout star of NBC's Last Comic Standing seasons 1 and 3, was a regular guest on Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn and wrote for Chris Rock when he hosted The Academy Awards in 2005. He played Lenny Bruce on NBC'sAmerican Dreams and is a regular on the Opie and Anthony radioshow.

Bear Mountain Oktoberfest 09 Final Two Weeks - October 25th Weekends 12-6

Saturday and Sunday, October 17, 18, 23 and 24 12 Noon - 6 p.m. FREE Admission Parking: $7 per vehicle.  **Event is Rain or Shine** Bear Mountain will host their annual Oktoberfest, again this weekend through October 25 from 12 p.m. - 6 p.m. The festival will feature authentic German food and beer, live entertainment and craft vendors.  The Adam Barthalt Band (www.adambarthalt.com) will play super charged Polka on October 17. October 24, Fritz's Polka Band (www.fritzspolkaband.com) energizes the final weekend with their non-stereotypical polka music. Other featured bands include the Austrian Boyson October 18, and JT Lustiegen Musikanten on October 25. Circle-Line Sightseeing Cruise has an annual Oktoberfest cruise that runs every weekend during the month of October! Basically, you hop on the boat from Pier 83 in Manhattan at 8:30am sharp and go for a 2-hour cruise up the Hudson River (enjoying beautiful scenery of fall foliage and views of the George Washington Bridge and other sites along the way) all the way up to Bear Mountain State Park. On the boat, you can buy all of the beer you want. Once you get to Bear Mountain State Park, the festivities really begin with German food, beer, and entertainment. You leave the park at 3:30pm for your 2-hour cruise back to Pier 83 which drops you off by 5:30pm. ew York State Office Of Parks Announces $3.3 Million For Appalachian Trail Restoration @ Bear Mountain

Bear Mountain   New York State Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation Palisades Interstate Park Commission Bear Mountain State Park  Appalachian Trail Restoration Project at Bear Mountain Receives Federal Recreational Trails Funding New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation Commissioner Carol Ash announced $3.3 million in grants for 32 trail-related projects around the state as part of the Federal Recreational Trails Program. The on-going rehabilitation of the Appalachian Trail as it winds through Bear Mountain's State Park will be funded with support from two awards:  Palisades Parks Conservancy $120,935 The Palisades Parks Conservancy, Inc., in partnership with the NY-NJ Trail Conference and the Palisades Interstate Park Commission, will construct a half-mile accessible trail along the Bear Mountain summit, giving access to an area that is not available to persons with disabilities.  New York-New Jersey Trail Conference $150,000 The original section of the Appalachian Trail, the nation's first National Scenic Trail, at Bear Mountain is also the most heavily used and degraded. As part of a larger project to rebuild this historic trail to safely accommodate the hundreds of thousands of users annually, this project will open a three-quarter-mile section originating behind the Bear Mountain Inn. New York has one of the most expansive trail systems in the nation, providing public access to the many natural resources across the state. The trails, which lead through public and private lands, are developed and maintained by state and local municipalities and motorized and non-motorized trail group volunteers. "New York's expansive trail system offers four-seasons of recreation for all who live and visit our great state," said State Parks Commissioner Carol Ash. "Through these grants, New York will help connect people to the spectacular scenery and wide open spaces across the Empire State, while helping to improve the quality of life and economies of host communities." "Trails are a key asset to New York, providing multiple benefits," said Robin Dropkin, executive director of Parks & Trails New York. "They encourage people to be more physically active, protect our air, water and wildlife, provide close to home recreation, and bring tourists and visitors to communities. As big parcels of land get harder and harder to come by it's time to turn more attention to greenways and trails—as green swaths of protected open space in their own right and enhancements to and connections between larger parcels of open space. The grants will be used for such projects as creating new trails, improving trails, providing connections and purchasing equipment. Trail development plans must emphasize providing access for people with disabilities and minimizing environmental impact.

Help Trailside Museums and Zoo celebrate the spookiest of seasons with some family- friendly fun during the Boo at the Zoo on Saturday, October 24, 2009 from 10:30 AM to 3:00 PM. We'll make spider cookie snacks for the black bears at 10:30 a.m., and then we'll watch as the zookeepers let them loose on the tasty Halloween decorations at 11:00 a.m. Throughout the day you'll touch real animal skulls, see stuffed specimens in the Nature Study museum, learn about our not-so-scary owls and vultures, and we'll find out about some of the things that make Autumn such a special season. We'll see you at Boo at the Zoo!!!

Bear Mountain TrailSide Environmental Education Program For Children July 13 -23 rd

New York State Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation Palisades Interstate Park Commission Trailside Museums and Zoo at Bear Mountain State Park Trailside Discovery: Environmental Education Day Program for Children • Session One Monday, July 13th through Thursday July 16th 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. This session is for children entering first and second grade this fall (Registration deadline is July 3rd.) • Session Two Monday, July 20th through Thursday, July 23rd 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. This session is for children entering third and fourth grade this fall. (Registration deadline is July 10th.) Summer is the time for kids to be outside. There is no better place for your child to spend time in the great outdoors this summer than at Trailside Museums and Zoo! The Trailside Discovery day program will be your child's up-close and personal introduction to local wildlife and ecology. They will get their hands dirty! They will have fun! Through hands-on activities and exciting games, children will be immersed in the natural world in engaging, and age appropriate ways they are bound to enjoy. So, please turn off the video games, the television, the internet, and the air conditioning! Help your child experience summer the way it was meant to be! Registration is required Maximum enrollment is 15 children per session, so please act quickly. Please give us a call and we will be happy to mail you a copy of our brochure. Bear Mountain Independence Fireworks Celebration Friday June 26th 2009

Palisades Interstate Park Commission  Bear Mountain State Park Independence Celebration Fireworks  Friday, June 26, 2009  On Friday, June 26, 2009, blankets, bounce houses, and barbeques are the order of the day at Bear Mountain State Park for the annual fireworks spectacular.  From 5 PM to 9 PM, visitors can dance to the sounds of Party Time Productions on the outdoor stage. Guest Services, Inc. will sell picnic fare from an outdoor tent and the gift shop will have merchandise for sale. The Merry-Go-Round will be open so bring the children for a fun-filled night! Arrive early as parking lots fill up fast.  Approximate time for the fireworks display is 9:00 PM. Parking is $7.00 per vehicle. Alcoholic beverages and personal pyrotechnics are not permitted. Bear Mountain State Park can be reached via Exit 19 of the Palisades Interstate Parkway or from Route 9W.
